Ottawa, ON – After nine years of the NDP-Liberal Government, taxes are up, costs are up, crime is up and time is up. But instead of giving Canadians a chance to vote in a carbon tax election, Trudeau has appointed Carbon Tax Carney as his phantom finance minister who will make life even more expensive for everyone.

Trudeau has given Carbon Tax Carney sweeping powers over Canadians and make life cost more. Yet even though Carney now has significant power within the Trudeau Government, he will not have to declare his massive conflicts of interest and connections to multinational corporate interests because Justin Trudeau has shielded him from ethics laws by hiring him as a Liberal Party advisor. Carney and his corporate friends stand to potentially benefit to the tune of billions of dollars with no accountability to Canadians.

Every day there are new questions about Carbon Tax Carney’s conflicts of interest. Just days after his official appointment his close friend, the CEO of Telesat, received $2.14 billion in taxpayer loans to build a broadband network that other firms could have delivered for taxpayers at half the cost. While Canadians struggle to put food on the table, it’s never been better to be a well-connected Liberal.

Common Sense Conservatives are calling on Carbon Tax Carney to testify before Committee on his massive conflicts of interest and significant, unaccountable power within Trudeau’s costly government.

Instead of dodging the committees like last time he was asked to testify, Trudeau’s successor must be honest with the Canadians about his conflicts of interest and whether he still wants to quadruple the Liberals’ punishing carbon tax on Canadians by 2030. He should also be honest with Canadians about his plan to destroy Canada’s energy sector, while his company pours money into energy projects benefitting our competitors in other countries.

If the NDP truly cares about working people, they will vote with Common Sense Conservatives to have Carbon Tax Carney testify. Carney has long advocated for policies that will devastate the paycheques of Canadian workers and now Trudeau has given him the power to make his job-killing policies a daily reality for workers.
