Poilievre thanks the labour unions who have endorsed his plan to make Canada work for those who do the work. He also announced that he will slash decades of red tape and reform borrowing limits to give ports access to private capital, expanding our ports so we can trade more with other trading partners to reduce our reliance on the United States.

Halifax, NS – In a landmark shift for Canadian labour, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre welcomed the support of major trade unions who have endorsed the Conservatives’ plan to bring home powerful paycheques and restore dignity to work. These endorsements mark a dramatic realignment, as workers demand real results—not red tape.

“This support from the trades workers is a powerful signal: working Canadians are fed up with the Liberals,” said Poilievre. “They’ve seen the cost of living explode, jobs leave, and infrastructure projects stall. They’re ready for a government that actually gets things built.”

Today, Poilievre was also honoured to receive the endorsement of the ILA Local 269, representing Halifax Longshoremen, after making an announcement to support those hardworking men and women through his comprehensive plan to fix Canada’s ports—a sector that has been throttled by the Liberal government’s bureaucracy and indecision.

The Plan to Fix Our Ports will:

  1. Eliminate overlapping regulations, fast-track project approvals, and empower Port Authorities to pre-authorize development zones.
  2. Reform borrowing limits to give ports access to private sector capital without waiting on Ottawa’s approval.
  3. Designate Port Authorities as lead environmental evaluators, speeding up timelines and clearing out red tape.
  4. Unlock the Great Lakes with new Canadian container shipping hubs and fix the CBSA backlog once and for all.
  5. Expand the North’s trade potential by strengthening the Port of Churchill by extending the shipping season.
  6. Modernize flexible work-hour regulations for smaller ports, in consultation with unions.

“For ten years, the Liberals have done nothing but block development and drive away investment,” Poilievre said. “Our ports are some of the worst-performing in the world. While American ports thrive, ours sit idle—costing us jobs, investment, and independence.”

Poilievre reiterated that only the Conservatives are listening to workers and have a real plan to grow paycheques and bring prosperity back to Canada’s industries.
