Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on International Francophonie Day:

“Every March, Canada joins 87 countries around the world in proudly celebrating the shared francophone language and culture that unite us across oceans and continents.

“Here at home, the French language lives at the heart of communities in nearly every province and territory of our country. From Quebecers and Acadians to Franco-Ontarians and Western francophones, over 7 million Canadians speak, study, dream and live in French.

“It is with a shared pride and commitment that they carry the French language forward, ensuring that this foundational part of Canada’s heritage is passed on to future generations.

“This incredible dedication has personally served as an inspiration to me: at home, where my wife Anaida and I speak to our children in French, and in my work at the helm of my common sense Conservative team as we fight to protect the language rights of Francophones living in minority communities.

“As we celebrate Canada’s unique and vibrant Francophonie, we recommit to this very important work. Happy International Francophonie Day!”
