BRIDGEWATER, NS – Rick Perkins, Conservative candidate for South Shore-St. Margarets issued the following statement:
“Like many Nova Scotians, I am appalled to learn that Penny Boudreau, the woman who brutally murdered her own 12-year-old daughter, has been on day passes from prison and could soon be granted unescorted leave from prison. This is a sickening development that shocks the conscience of Canadians and reopens wounds for an entire community that still mourns young Karissa Boudreau.
“Let me be clear: someone who takes a child’s life in such a premeditated and horrific way should not be walking our streets – under any circumstances. The idea that this could even be considered is a direct result of the Liberal government’s reckless, soft-on-crime approach. Time and again, this government has prioritized the rights of violent offenders over the safety of law-abiding Canadians.
“The residents of the South Shore, Halifax and communities across Canada deserve to feel safe in their own neighbourhoods. They deserve a government that puts public safety and justice first. Unfortunately, over the last 10 years, the Liberal government has put the rights of criminals before the rights of victims and unleashed crime and chaos on our streets.
“A Common Sense Conservative government will stop this. We will lock up murderers. We will bring in earned parole so that no one gets out automatically or before they’re rehabilitated. And we will keep Canadians safe – for a change.”
